Your tasks are done. What will you take away?

The classic review helps you look back on your completed Todoist tasks. Focused questions help you understand what went well, what slowed you down and what you want to change next time.

Prepare the slides and incorporate feedback for the client meeting.

What slowed you down on this task?

Feedback arrived just before the deadline, so I had to revise the slides twice.

Your takeaway

Agree on a firm feedback date ahead of the deadline.

The idea behind it

What is the classic review?

A moment to pause and reflect on your work. Set aside a little time once a week, for example, to look back on your completed Todoist tasks. Guided questions help you notice what went well, understand what slowed you down and capture what you want to take into the next week.

  1. See what you have accomplished
  2. Reflect on your experience
  3. Take away concrete insights

Your review, step by step

How your review works.

Your tasks provide the context. Your answers turn them into a reflection you can build on.

  1. Set the scope

    Choose your time period.

Create a new review from the review overview and choose the period you want to look back on. Todolytics loads the tasks completed in Todoist during that time.

Want to focus on a particular area of your work? Use a saved label filter to include only tasks with the relevant Todoist labels. For example, choose your “Client work” label to reflect on completed client tasks together.

  2. One task at a time

    Look closer at what happened.

Go through your completed tasks one by one and answer the selected reflection questions. What helped? What was harder than expected?

Depending on the question, answer with text, a star rating or both. You can move back and forth between tasks. Your answers are saved so you can resume an unfinished review later.

What slowed you down on this task?

    Your answer

Late feedback meant revising the slides twice.

  3. See the bigger picture

Capture what you want to take away.

After the individual tasks, summary questions help you reflect on the whole period and put your most useful insights into words.

You write your own summary: what patterns do you notice? What do you want to keep or change? Complete the review once you have captured your reflection.

Common questions about the classic review

Do I need to start a Work Cycle first?

No. The classic review uses completed tasks from your available Todoist history. You do not need to plan ahead or add a Work Cycle label.

Which tasks appear in the review?

Tasks completed during your chosen period. You can narrow the selection with a saved label filter. Open tasks are not part of the classic review. If there are no completed tasks in the period or after filtering, you cannot create a review for that selection.

How far back can I look?

This depends on the activity history available with your Todoist plan. Todolytics accounts for this limit when you choose a period. Without available history, a retrospective review is not possible.

Can I resume an unfinished review?

Yes. Your answers and progress are saved. Reopen the unfinished review from your review overview. Completed reviews are also available there to read again.

Do I have to use AI?

No. You can reflect using your own questions. Optionally, enable AI-generated task questions in the settings.

How long does a review take?

That depends on your chosen period, selected tasks and number of questions. Start with a small review and just a few questions. You can establish a weekly rhythm, but it is not required.
